Why Does Easter Matter?
The Apostle Paul puts everything on the line with these words: “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is pointless, and your faith is pointless too.” (1st Corinthians 15:14)
The Christian faith utterly depends on this one event in history. If that first Easter didn’t happen, there is no Christianity.
Easter is a line in the sand. If we don’t believe that Jesus has been raised from the dead, we make him into a liar. A liar can’t save us from our sin, our death, our hell. As the Apostle freely admits: “If our hope in Christ applies only to this life, we are the most pitiful people of all.” (1st Corinthians 15:19)
Easter Matters Because He Lives!
Jesus crossed the line from life to death to pay for our sins. But he also crossed back over that line to life again. This means the price was completely paid. This means that all God’s promises are true. This means we have certain hope beyond this life.
The line of this Easter truth – and the hope and joy it brings – has continued unbroken through the centuries down to us. Christians gather for worship on Sundays – the Lord’s day of resurrection – to encourage one another and celebrate their risen Savior.
…because Easter matters!
